To amend the mistake by the Government regarding the 10p tax band, Alistair Darling
announced a third change to payroll systems planned for the 7th of September. This
change is in addition to the usual two changes employers usually have to make each
year in April and May. This will affect over a million small businesses which need
to prepare for the change at a time when many payroll staff are on holiday.

From Monday the 14th of July HMRC are issuing penalty notices to employers where
their records show that they have not received a P11D (b) form for the 2006-07 tax
year which should have been with HMRC by the 6th of July 2007. If you receive a
penalty notice that you believe has been issued in error, you can appeal by writing
within 30 days to the office named on the notice. Stay on the right side of

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has extended its new system of penalties for errors
in tax returns to include claims for VAT refunds. Whilst most people do get
their returns correct, HMRC sees the new system as a means to encourage those that
don't to be more careful and stop them from gaining an unfair advantage.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is currently running a pilot to assess
the use of electronically generated medical statements as an alternative to written
