Tax Update (July 2008)
Electronic Medical Certificates piloted
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is currently running a pilot to assess
the use of electronically generated Med 3 medical statements as an alternative to
written ones.
The pilot is taking place in Wales only at present and includes 20 GP practices
and those affected will only be employers and employees registered with those practices
between July and November.
The electronic version will be printed on one side of an A4 sheet of paper with
information typed onto the form and signed by the GP. There is a barcode to
identify the issuing practice and will be available in both English and Welsh.
Mentor will monitor the scheme's development and advise you of any action your
business needs to take if the system is adopted nationwide. Meantime, if you
have any general Tax or VAT queries, we're here to help on 0870 600 0829.
Maximum call charge from a BT landline is 6p plus up to 6p per minute.
Business rates and calls from other networks may vary.
