Review on Health & Safety published
Lord Young’s review into the health and safety regulations and
the compensation culture it promotes has been published today. The
report makes a number of recommendations centred around
compensation, insurance requirements, raising consultancy standards
and making things simpler for the smaller businesses within the
UK.
In the report, Lord Young states, ‘The aim is to free businesses
from unnecessary bureaucratic burdens and the fear of having to pay
out unjustified damages claims and legal fees. Above all it means
applying common sense not just to compensation but to everyday
decisions once again’.
Larger, high-risk businesses will not be affected by the
changes. Lord Young has been asked by David Cameron to stay on his
team, and he (Lord Young) has agreed to work closely with the
Government, to assist with the implementation of his
recommendations.
