CIPD launches code of conduct consultation
A revised code of professional conduct has been published by the
Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Members
now have until 15 July to give their thoughts on the code, which
covers behaviour, integrity and ethics within the workplace.
The new code is said to be very different from the current one,
and is 'designed to better reflect the world as it is today,
post-financial crisis,' according to the CIPD. Its main elements
are stewardship, representation of the profession, ethical
standards and integrity and professional competence and
behaviour.
CIPD chief executive, Jackie Orme, said, “CIPD membership is a
trusted and respected benchmark of HR professionalism. We've
already completed thorough reviews of professional standards and
entry requirements.
“The time is now right to review and update our code of conduct,
to ensure it remains relevant to the world as it is today,
particularly in the context of an ongoing crisis of confidence in
business as a whole, post-financial crash,” Orme added.
Following the consultation, the new code is set to be approved
by the CIPD later this year.
