Noise Pollution Fine
Environmental update 04/07/2011
A car wash firm has been fined for the second time in four
months due to noise from its machines. Cheltenham magistrates
ordered "Super Suds" to pay a total of £465 in fines and £1,257 in
costs. The Company was found guilty of two offences under the
Environmental Protection Act in a case brought by Tewkesbury
Borough Council.
In February, after residents complained about noise from its jet
washing machines in Canterbury Works, Newtown, the firm was fined
£375 and ordered to pay costs of nearly £1,000. It had failed to
comply with a previous noise abatement notice served in 2010. When
it still failed to reduce noise levels, the council went back to
court. The authority says the firm is no longer operating at the
site.
The Borough's residential services manager, said: "We work
hard to ensure the borough is a place where people want to live and
visit and this includes taking action when businesses or
individuals fail to comply with legal notices. The local residents
were being significantly affected by the noise of Super Suds Car
Wash so this latest outcome will hopefully ensure their quality of
life is restored."
