Technical Competence deadline approaches
Environmental update 02/09/2011
Everybody in the waste management industry should note that the
first Technical Competence deadline for England and Wales is fast
approaching. By 29th February 2012 (less than 200
days) all Technically Competent managers who have relied on a
pre-2009 Certificate of Technical Competence (CoTC), were 'deemed
competent' or were assessed by the Environment Agency must show
that they have kept their industry knowledge up to date.
To do this they must take and pass a Continuing Competence test;
failure to do so will mean the EA will no longer accept them as
technically competent. This could result in some sites being unable
to operate legally under their environmental permit or having to
make special arrangements to show that they are being managed by
people who are still technically competent.
