How much did the accident cost your Company?
Health & Safety update 05/10/2011
As part of its Life Savings campaign, the Institute of
Occupational Safety and Health, (IOSH) has announced that it is
planning to develop a bank of costs for common accidents and
incidences of work-related ill-health.
The health and safety body said it hopes to draw on the
expertise and experience of businesses in creating the
resource.
Caroline Patel, Head of Campaigns at IOSH, said, "A central
resource of typical costs, based on genuine industry examples, will
help businesses – whatever their size, whatever their sector – make
quick, rough calculations about what their own health and safety
failures cost. We've seen that costs can act as a real wake-up call
for senior managers, prompting them to take action."
If you have carried out any development work at your business to
calculate the full costs associated with a common accident (e.g.
slips, trips or falls) or ill-health case (e.g. manual
handling-related back injury) and are happy to share it with
others, then please contact IOSH directly via their website
http://www.iosh.co.uk/. All costs
published as part of the resource will be anonymous.
