Environment Agency - Relaxation of rules around SIC codes

Environmental update 05/10/2011

The Environment Agency (EA) has released a position statement clarifying the use of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code on hazardous waste consignment notes.

The EA has stated that it will not pursue breaches of the requirement to include the SIC code on a consignment note. It will also not pursue any corrections of the SIC code, if for example, the 2007 publication of the SIC codes is provided on a consignment note (the 2003 version of the code should only be used).

It is important that all other information is provided. This position statement will be reviewed in September 2012.
