Ambulance workers win holiday pay for "shift overruns"

Ambulance workers have succeeded in their claim for holiday pay for “shift overruns” - non-guaranteed overtime that they were obliged to perform. But they were not successful in their claim for holiday pay in respect of purely voluntary overtime.

The case is helpful in showing how tribunals might consider claims for arrears of holiday pay made by workers who perform regular overtime.

A manufacturing company in the North West has been fined £500,000 after an employee was struck by a forklift truck (FLT) in Chester.

Encirc Ltd of Enniskillen, a glass bottles producer for the drinks industry, failed to take effective measures to ensure its workers were correctly segregated from FLTs, Liverpool Magistrates' Court heard.

Asda diverted 98.9% of their waste from landfill, with 91% reused or recycled (including anaerobic digestion), and had kept its food throwaway rate at less than 1% over the previous five years.

Meanwhile, Asda has installed 3.8MW of solar PV across its estate and, since 2010, reduced its energy reduction intensity by 19%.
